Ruth Theodore - Worm Food · 21 November 2008, 15:18
Once downloaded, I couldn’t stop listening to this album by Ruth Theodore. An artist out of England and a damn good one after listening to what I call a true masterpiece.
Ruth seems to have this type of quirky sound in a few songs, somewhat of rambling words instead of singing but in the best possible way imaginable. A few songs and the acoustic guitar tunes remind me of Tim Reynolds when him and Dave Matthews toured together.
I already plan to buy the album even though you can download it from jamendo.com for free. I suggest the same if you like what you hear. If at all, you’ll most likely like it, if you don’t, you suck!
Check out Ruth Theodore’s Official Site for more details, links, downloads.
The Wind Whistles - Window Sills · 7 November 2008, 16:11
An acoustic jam session. They’ve got a quirky but very well blended sound that makes you feel like singing along. This duo does it right from Vancouver.
My personal favorite is their track titled “Good Friends Won’t Rip You Off” which comes at a perfect time this election season here in the U.S..
You can happily download their full album at Jamendo.com. But I highly suggest buying their album so they can create some more kick ass music for our entertainment.
Here’s a little more info about them taken from jamendo.com:
Tom and Liza are the Wind Whistles and they live together in the suburbs of Vancouver, Canada. As an indie folk duo they both sing and both play acoustic instruments (guitar, bass). Sometimes they play alone and sometimes they bring friends, more times not. They think they sound like a cross of Lemonheads and Violent Femmes while people tell them they sound like a cross of the Decemberists and the Moldy Peaches. Beginning in the spring of 2006, they’ve done the usual artist thing: demo, radio, festivals, tours, friends and lots and lots of shows. They have just released their first full length “window sills” and are going to spread it around as much as they can. In May they’re quitting their jobs and heading across Canada with the Greenbelt Collective, then alone to Europe in June, July, August, and then back across North America in September and October starting on the East Coast. Annually the Wind Whistles organize the celebrated local Beanstalk Folk Festival; a festival in which the ‘Folk’ is a loose term for some of their favourite artists that aren’t rock or too loud. The Wind Whistles are notorious do-it-yourselfers and love to meet generous and creative people that make beautiful things happen.

From the same producer who brought us The Shins, Built to Spill and Band of Horses brings us probably one of the best albums I’ve heard to date this year.
The sounds remind me of rolling hills and the coastline for some reason. What can I say, I’m a sucker for folky type indie music. Just seems lately a lot of artists and albums I’ve been listening to remind me of the North Western part of the United States.
This album and Fleet Foxes were picked up on the same day. I only picked these up to pick up the new Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) album and I haven’t even really began on his new album since I can’t seem to stop listening to this and Fleet Foxes. Truly and probably the first time I’ve ever gotten two albums in the same purchase where I liked every single song on each, not having any negativity for any portion of the songs or album.

Oh wow. Simply wow. Not sure how I missed their EP a few months back but found this new full length debut from a truly amazing band. Amazing melodies with a folky feel. It’s the type of album that gives you goose bumps it’s so good. It’s a relaxing album you can listen to on most occasions whether you’re alone, coffee house or wherever. It’s uplifting but yet subtle, in the mysterious type of way.
Why are you still reading my short review, go buy this album already?
